How to Contact Your Representative

Richland Collegiate High School is a charter high school; one of a kind in Texas. As such, we have needs that we are just now discovering. One such need is equity in educational testing and evaluation. Our children are placed in the Richland College curriculum after completing a vigorous evaluation; identical to all other students entering as college freshmen. The placement in college level classes occurs before taking the high school exit TAKS examinations, yet the students are required to give up four days per year to participate in the TAKS high school exit exams.

Many parents believe this is an unnecessary waste of time for these young adults, given the rigors of the college curriculum they have at hand. The parents of one RCHS student recently wrote to their representative and passed on their letter for our inspiration. If you feel the same, we ask you to take a few moments and share your concern with your elected representative in Washington and Austin. The right side panel on this page lists many of the representatives and a link to the Web site for you to search for your own.

If you do decide to write, please remember that these legislators may not even be aware of our needs or our innovative approach to improving the education of our children. Let's show them our best participation of responsible civic engagement to help them understand the issues and help us support these great young people, unlike the little duck on the right.
