RCHS ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance
RCHS students are expected to report to all classes on time. Attendance is taken daily in each class. RCHS students will be expected to follow and adhere to the attendance policies set forth by individual faculty in each course as well as the Texas Compulsory Attendance Laws.
Students are required to attend each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided. RCHS tracks and reports any violations of the attendance law to TEA. According to state regulations, students must be in attendance at least 90% of the days that classes are offered to earn credits towards graduation. Students in violation of the state’s 90% attendance policy may lose credit or fail courses, thereby endangering graduation eligibility.
If a student is absent or tardy for any reason, the student/parent must notify the school as soon as possible. All absences must be documented in writing by the parent or guardian upon the student’s return to school. Absences are considered unexcused if written documentation is not received by the RCHS staff by the third day of the student’s return to classes. Students who miss school due to a doctor or dentist appointment must present the RCHS office with documentation of the appointment on letterhead from the doctor/dentist office (must include date and time of appointment).
Dismissal for Unexcused Absences
RCHS students who accumulate ten or more unexcused days or partial days in a school year may be removed from the RCHS program for the remainder of the school year. Unexcused absences include the following:
- Leaving campus without signing out in the RCHS office with parent permission
- Leaving campus due to illness without approval from the Health Center & signing out in the RCHS office with parent permission
- Failure to submit proper documentation to the RCHS office for absences within three days of the absence
- Arriving to class more than 20 minutes late (1-20 minutes late = tardy; 20+ minutes late = unexcused absence for the class)
- Missing class due to vacation or for personal reasons
- Missing class due to work
- Missing class due to other family members or transportation reasons
Written documentation is required within three days of the students return to school. Include student’s full name, date student was absent, ID# and reason for absence on note.
